Uncharted@IU Research Group

Welcome to the homepage of the Uncharted@IU Research Group in the Department of Intelligent Systems Engineering at Indiana University (IU). Our group explores uncharted directions at the intersection of quantum computing and sustainable machine learning. We aim to design next-generation algorithms and systems that are secure, efficient, and environmentally responsible—spanning both theory and practice, from hardware to applications. Uncharted@IU is led by Dr. Lei Jiang .

Dr. Lei Jiang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Intelligent Systems Engineering at Indiana University Bloomington. He leads the Uncharted@IU Research Group, where his work advances the foundations of quantum computing and sustainable AI systems. Dr. Jiang has an extensive publication record spanning top-tier venues across computer architecture, machine learning, security, and quantum computing, including NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, DAC, MICRO, HPCA, ASPLOS, NDSS, AAAI, and QCE, as well as leading journals such as IEEE TC, TACO, TCAD, CAL, and Nature Communications. His research has received multiple Best Paper Awards and nominations at premier conferences. He has a strong and sustained history of external funding, serving as PI or Co-PI on multiple NSF awards, with total funding well into the multi-million-dollar range, supporting research on quantum cyberinfrastructure, hardware–software co-design, privacy-preserving ML, and sustainable computing systems.
